Lies & Myths About Corporate Wellness
I’ve heard it said that if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. If that’s true, I haven’t worked a day in 30 years.
Today began like every other day for me…with daily devotionals, prayer, gratitude and breakfast.
Then I dropped my daughter off at school, stopped by the office to see how things were going, and headed downtown to promote my new book, Mind Over Head Chatter – The Psychology of Athletic Success, at FOX 4 News in Kansas City.
My hometown baseball team, the Kansas City Royals are in the World Series and I was invited to talk about their “team cohesion and brotherhood”. You can see the interview here: http://fox4kc.com/2014/10/23/author-of-mind-over-chatter-greg-justice-discusses-royals-brotherhood/
Below are the attributes of a cohesive team that we covered in the interview:
Consisting of coach and members who give of themselves to team efforts.
Clear expectations for roles.
*Effective communication strategies.
*Respect for each player.
*Viewing the team as greater than the sum of its parts (i.e. team over individual member).
*Celebrating individual differences and contributions.
*Recognition of outstanding behavior and role performance.
*Including everyone in the process of setting team goals.
*Providing feedback that maximizes learning, and encourages activity outside routine practice.
We also talked about the importance of confidence and how the Royals were able to overcome obstacles. There’s no doubt that on game days, an athlete’s confidence provides the ultimate competitive edge. That same confidence can be transferred into every day life.
After finishing the interview, I went back to the gym and trained of my long time clients of 25 years and a high school athlete who, at age 16 has signed to play baseball with one of the top universities in the country.
If I haven’t said it yet, I LOVE WHAT I DO!
My day also included a workout that consisted of 100 Flips of a 400 lb. tractor tire. It’s a workout that got me one step closer to completing a goal of 3,000 flips (1.2 million lbs.) from June 1 to Oct. 31.
After today’s workout I’m at 2,929 flips, only 71 flips left!
I love setting goals. Research shows that goals that bring you happiness (ones that you are passionate about) motivate you to reach them and set additional goals that bring more happiness. It’s an on-going system.
Think about the important aspects of your life and how your goals get interwoven to fit in. Think about the person you see yourself becoming or wish to become. Ask yourself, what are the three most
important things in your life, and will your goals and actions reflect your own priorities?
As this day winds down, I know that I’m one step closer to becoming the person I want to be…that I’m living my purpose, and tomorrow I’ll do it all over again.
